How to Prevent Water Damage in Your Home?
The bathroom is a place in your house that is very important but is often neglected. A homeowner needs to give equal importance to the bathroom as to the rest of the house. Nowadays while choosing a house, the bathroom is given high importance. Therefore, it is quite essential to maintain your bathroom.
If you do not maintain your bathroom then it can decrease the value of your house, particularly in the case of structural damage caused by water. It is quite important to take care of structural damage in comparison to cosmetic damage.
Rotting support beams also cause great harm to your house. Wet rooms of your property like the kitchen and the bathroom are much more likely to get affected by this. It is also very important to take care of the floor of your bathroom as it adds and subtract a great value from the house.
Make sure that the floor of your bathroom is extremely watertight. If water can get under the tile, it will soak the floor underneath. Even though it does not seem like a big problem at an initial stage, it would really become a big problem over time.
You should never choose hardwood floors for your kitchen or bathroom as it is not a good idea. Many homeowners also forget about the ceiling and upper walls of their house while thinking about the structural integrity. However, you also need to take care of them.
The ceiling of your bathroom is affected a lot by the steam that comes from taking a bath or a shower. This steam causes a lot of damage to the walls. For preventing this, you might have an exhaust fan installed in your bathroom.
One more important thing to think about is how often you allow your bathtub or toilet to overflow. If the bathroom is on the second floor or higher, this can wreak a huge amount of damage not only on the floor, but the ceiling underneath it.
For preventing overflow in your bathtub, you should never leave the bathroom when the water supply is turned on in the tub. In case there is any emergency like a phone call, first turn off the water supply.
